The town of Sarande
Saranda is the capital of the southern district of Sarandë and is a thriving tourist attraction. It is situated on an open gulf in the Ionian sea and has a population of around 32,000.
After leaving the Blue Eye you head back along the same roads to Saranda for your next stop, a hilltop Roman Castle that offers breathtaking panorama views of Saranda, Corfu and distant mountains.
The castle also acts as a restaurant, I imagine it's a fantastic place to eat during sunset.
This part of the day is the best for photographs to make sure you take your time to walk around all accessible parts of the Castle to make the most of the view. Looking out towards Corfu you can see how close Albania actually is to the Greek island. Corfu is on the right hand side with the coast of Albania on the far left.
Looking down and to your right you can see the town of Saranda.
After visiting this fantastic Roman Castle you take the perilous journey down the side of the hill on a very narrow road only wide enough for a coach. There are a few close calls on tight corners, which pass very closely to the edge of the hill. Once you get back to Saranda you are taken to a small restaurant. If you have your own food you can take a walk around town. The price of the food is very cheap and very nice. Its the perfect chance to unwind after a long day and take in the views of the sea and Albanian coast.
After eating, the guide then takes you on a walk through town to an old site that was once an ancient church of some type. Again the guide is full of information for all those on the tour. You then head back to the coach, which takes you back to your boat. Here you can call into the port centre and get your passport stamped.
The boat then takes you back to Corfu Town from where you are driven back to your hotel/apartment.
Overall it's a fantastic day out, very interesting with stunning views. Well worth every Euro!
